La visita all’antico faro di Genova
Un’occasione per conoscere la storia della città e del suo porto e si articola in 3 tappe che simbolicamente riassumono aspetti importanti della sua storia:
OPEN AIR MUSEUM e il PARCO Lungo la passeggiata -costruita nel 2001 con un suggestivo percorso che riprende nel suo tracciato l’antica strada di accesso da occidente alla città- e nel parco ai piedi del faro, una serie di pannelli ne narrano il contesto storico e urbanistico, le attività e i mestieri del porto presente e passato e propongono, dove ancora possibile, confronti tra iconografia storica, vedute, foto d’archivio e attualità. Nel parco anche l’ottocentesca, monumentale PORTA NUOVA.
IL MUSEO Dentro quel che rimane della fortezza che concludeva la cinta muraria ai piedi del faro, nelle antiche sale cannoniere e nella galleria ghibellina, la Lanterna è protagonista nell’immaginario iconografico e nelle rappresentazioni della città nei secoli. Nelle sale fucilieri, il museo dei fari, con lenti, meccaniche e modelli.
LA TORRE FARO Con la salita alla prima terrazza panoramica, la straordinaria vista spazia a 360° su Genova, il porto con i suoi terminal passeggeri e container, la cinta muraria seicentesca e la corona di forti che cingono la città, l’appennino ligure e il monte di Portofino.
Learn all about Genoa and its port throughout the centuries by visiting Genoa’s historic lighthouse, aka the Lanterna. The tour is divided in three parts that symbolically represent key moments in the city’s history:
THE OPEN-AIR MUSEUM and PARK Along the promenade -built in 2001 along the ancient route that provided access to the city from the west- and in the park located at the foot of the lighthouse, a series of display panels illustrate the historical and urban context, recounting the Port’s past and present conditions and activities and featuring, whenever possible, old photographs and drawings that show how the landscape evolved through time. The park also features the monumental 19th-century PORTA NUOVA (New Gate)
THE MUSEUM Inside what remains of the fortress that closed the city walls at the foot of the lighthouse, in the ancient gunnery rooms and in the Ghibelline gallery, the Lighthouse is the star of all the images and representations of the city across the centuries. The gunnery rooms house the Lighthouse museum, where lenses, machinery and models are displayed.
THE LIGHTHOUSE TOWER Climb up to the tower’s first panoramic terrace and enjoy a 360° view of Genoa: the port with its passenger and container terminals, the 17th-century city walls and ring of forts surrounding the city, the Ligurian Apennine mountains and the Promontory of Portofino.
